There are more than one way to let your guests (not customers... never customers, always guests - that sounded quite trite but fuck, trust me - this mind-set change adjusts your attitude and your staff's attitude whilst communicating with ... guests. See? Not shit, is it?) know that you are there for them (like F-R-I-E-N-D-S... I'll be there for... righto) This way is simple and effective:
Be bold and confident and as you move through your dining-room and/or bar and look for peoples eye. For example you will be on your way to grab a bottle of wine for another guest so walk with confidence and as you pass your guests look for guests eye. Your energy will charge the space and those guests that need some of that energy will instinctively (whatever that word means) look to you. When they do you will be 'on' and right there - This makes your work life easier. You are doing more, admittedly, but you are connecting. You are communicating the following: you (guest) are important to me. I am 'on' and I am looking for an opening to help enhance your evening. This will have a couple of flow on effects. 1)More sales. And 2)More tips.
Now when you and your staff not only do this for your guests but for each other - Fuck, that's a killer restaurant / bar / space.
Be great at life.
Luke.
